Six Ways to Be More Persuasive

Six Ways to Be More Persuasive

A few weeks ago, Kelly brought up the importance of asking for what you want. While she totally inspired us to step up and speak our minds, she also got us wondering: Are there any tricks to effectively winning over your audience to ensure that in addition to asking for what you want, you actually get it? I dusted off my old college marketing materials and landed on Dr. Robert Cialdini’s Six Principles of Persuasion. The theory came up repeatedly throughout my college coursework, and though I’d forgotten the details of Cialdini’s claim, I’ve been subconsciously exercising his practice daily in the years since graduation. So whether you’re arguing your next case to your boss or to a complete stranger, turns out there are a few key things to keep in mind (and up your sleeve) that’ll help get you closer to your goal. photo from chronicles of her ...see the slideshow here

Chocolate Espresso and Raspberry Swirl Meringues To Wow Your Valentine

Chocolate Espresso and Raspberry Swirl Meringues To Wow Your Valentine

Let’s just say that my first attempt at meringues was less-than-perfect (blaming it on Camille’s malfunctioning oven.) The bright side? Apart from making s’mores by sandwiching our burnt meringues between graham crackers, it also allowed me more opportunity to practice getting these just perfect. Turns out, consistency and oven temperature are key ingredients for meringues that look as good as they taste. Scroll down to find out how to make these marbled meringues that are sure to wow your Valentine! ...see the slideshow here

13 Unexpected Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day

13 Unexpected Date Ideas for Valentine's Day

*image source When the second week of February rolls around each year, Adam and I inevitably look at each other a little bewildered and ask “So… what should we do for Valentine’s Day?” As much as we love going out to dinner, nice restaurants can feel a little cheesy (not to mention crowded and overpriced) on this day of the year, so I’m always on the hunt for unexpected date ideas that will still feel romantic and special. I remember the first year we celebrated Valentine’s Day as a couple, we cooked a really fancy dinner at Adam’s place complete with steak and chocolate soufflés, and it was so memorable that we’ve tried to do something outside the box every year since. Whether you’re coupled up or single (gather your favorite girls!), keep scrolling for 13 unique ideas that will ensure your Valentine’s Day is actually fun, with no clichés in ...see the slideshow here

prettiest blush pink walls #behr #behrpaint #behrtrends2017 #ad

After a month of unpacking boxes, rearranging furniture, and trying to master the art of small space living, I’ve officially finished moving into my new apartment. While most people hate moving, I actually enjoy it! It gives me the opportunity to rake through my closet, donate home décor pieces that I’m no longer into, and provides a fresh start for a new place. This is my first time living alone – no roommates, no sisters, just my puppy and me. I’ve been super excited to design a space that completely represents my taste and fits my lifestyle. I partnered with our friends at BEHR® and ShopStyle Collective to add some color to my space and make my 600-square-feet feel like home. Scroll down to check out my apartment makeover and enter for the chance to win some Behr paint of your own! photography by Molly Winters ...see the slideshow here

The Best Apps to Help you Manage your Money in 2017

Editor’s Note: Today’s post is authored by Erica Holland. In addition to her full-time role at a private equity firm, Erica runs a personal finance and lifestyle blog, ModMoney, where she simplifies personal finance in a relatable way, and dives into important “real world” topics seldom taught in school. There’s something about the start of a new year that renews our motivation to accomplish goals. Maybe that means finally becoming a morning person. Or hitting the gym more regularly. Perhaps we want to be more present with loved ones or pause social media activity before bed. We set these intentions in an effort to live better, healthier, and happier. But there’s an important part of living well that we often overlook: financial health. The idea of managing your money can be daunting.
