As clichĂ© as it may be, my favorite part of the holiday season is picking out the perfect gift for my family and friends. But if you have a Christmas list as long as mine, it can prove difficult to check everyone without breaking the bank. That’s why I’m choosing to DIY many of my holiday gifts this year, and I’ve learned that the key to creating homemade gifts that people will cherish (and actually keep beyond the new year) is to personalize them to each person’s personality. The hostess in your life will love sporting a waxed canvas apron handcrafted by you. The interior aficionado will swoon over the copper wall hanging you create, and the beauty junkie will rave about your homemade gemstone soaps for months! It meant not scrolling through Instagram while I waited in line for coffee, resisting the urge to chat on the phone while I grocery shopped, and not getting lost in my own thoughts so that I could pay attention to what – and who – was happening all around me. In other words, being truly present with everyone who crossed my path, even if I didn’t know them. ...see the slideshow here

Federico Delbonis will start Argentina's quest for its first Davis Cup title by playing Friday's opening singles match against Marin Cilic of Croatia
When we heard that our favorite LA girl bosses were joining forces to throw a Thanksgiving dinner party, we knew the finished product would be major #goals. Designer Jenni Kayne invited us to check out the farmer’s market-inspired fĂȘte she hosted with the Bash Please gals, Suzanne of Chalkboard Mag, and Carly of Pressed Juicery. Our good friend Daphne Oz whipped up a few vegetarian recipes — the perfect “testing grounds” before this week’s real holiday feast. From the leather place cards to the gift basket party favors, every detail of this dinner party was styled to perfection. We sure are thankful to have such inspiring and creative friends. *photos by nicki sebastian ...see the slideshow here
