The 31-Day Career Detox Every Woman Can Accomplish

coffee shop power hour

Most people think about detoxes and resolutions on January 1st, but the real winners in life are the ones that think about setting and achieving goals year-round. And since summer is on the horizon and we’re already half way through 2017 (yikes!), my team and I at Career Contessa decided that May was a great month to detox… our careers. These are the attainable, small-scale, realistic commitments every woman can make to clean up her career. You can use this list in one of several ways. You can commit to completing one goal every day, going in the order I’ve suggested. Or you can print it out and cross each one off in any random order that suits your schedule. You can even tackle a handful of these in one Saturday. It’s really a buyer’s market — pick the process that suits you. featured image from Melissa Chanel photo from Boots and Pine By ...read the rest of the story here

The Prettiest Way To Wrap Gifts This Mothers Day

furoshiki wrapping, the prettiest way to wrap gifts with fabric!

I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but I’ve been super inspired by Japanese DIY projects lately. First there was my hot pink shibori dyed pillowcases, and now I’m going to introduce you to two of the coolest ways to wrap gifts using fabric. There are endless techniques for furoshiki wrapping – you can create an easy tote bag to carry your groceries home or a fun head wrap to accessorize an outfit – but with Mothers Day right around the corner, I decided to create something with my mom in mind. This year I’m ditching the wrapping paper and wrapping my Mothers Day gifts in fabric that my mom will love just as much as the gift inside. photography by kristen kilpatrick ...see the slideshow here

The Best Tricks for Hiding Roots

the best tricks for hiding roots

I’d like a show of hands: does anyone actually manage to stick to the recommended six to eight weeks between color appointments? No? If you’re anything like me, six to eight months can go by (okay, maybe not quite that much, but still) before you realize that your hair is basically screaming for a trip to the salon.  Thankfully, there are more easy and quick ways than ever to keep your roots (and/or grays) on the DL while you—eventually–get around to your next hair appointment. From stealthy powders to quick sprays, these newfangled products will keep your color looking fresh, even if it’s anything but! featured image via byrdie ...see the slideshow here

We’re Calling It: These 8 Breakfast Trends Are the New Avocado Toast

rainbow toast with all the beautiful toppings

It seems like lately, breakfast itself is a “trend,” with chefs from coast-to-coast (and even here in Austin) flexing their creative muscle at the first meal of the day — and the blogosphere is equally obsessed. On my last trip to LA, it felt like every meal presented me with options that were vegan, heirloom, adaptogenic, or promised to give me herb-driven superpowers, and it got me thinking: what are the dishes that will replace avocado toast as the queen of Instagram breakfast? I looked back over some of my standout restaurant breakfasts of the past few months, then paired them up with recipes I’ve been filing from around the web, and came up with 8 that you’re gonna want to try, stat. Keep scrolling and behold the buzziest breakfast trends of 2017.   ...see the slideshow here
