Michael Hill (Level 2, South) has been delighting accessorizers, timekeepers, and love-struck couples since its New Zealand opening in 1979, but the jeweler’s newest location in the Mall is anything but traditional. You’ve seen the usual dressings: clear glass cases with gold trim beneath towering corporate logos set against rich oak and mahogany. The dazzling storefront of Michael Hill is something altogether different. Eye-catching pieces are blanketed by a storm of lilac feathers. It’s striking, but welcoming: hopeful fiancés, proud parents, loving friends and soulmates can freely browse their collection of conflict-free jewelry.
In fact, the displays are arranged in a way that says ‘show floor,’ not ‘jewelry store.’ Like art and collection exhibits, Michael Hill’s varied lines—from watches to charms, bracelets to bangles—are distinctly set apart in ways that make browsing effortless and easy to understand for accessory veterans and newbies alike. I haven’t had cause to buy a graduation gift or engagement ring yet (fingers crossed on the latter, before long). But the inviting displays made it easy to see the difference between accessory types and the value each one holds in making a special person in your life feel like the most important individual in the world. And really, that’s what it’s all about.
